Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation
The Southeastern Firefighters' Burn Foundation, Inc. provides compassionate assistance to the families of patients being treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, Augusta, Georgia. We help meet the needs of the family while in Augusta and assist the patient with non-medical expenses related to follow-up care.
Annually, more than 3000 burn victims from all over the US arrive at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, GA. Augusta's Burn Center is recognized as one of the top burn centers in the world. The Burn Center has realized a 97% survival rate with their patients, and their focus is returning burn victims to quality lives. Family members play a most important part in that recovery.
In 1988, the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation was founded to assist patients and their families both during and after treatment at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center.
The Foundation staffs and operates the Jeffrey Vaden Chavis house at the Shirley Badke Retreat, where a spirit of volunteerism pervades. Each year, hundreds of family members lodge here at no charge, which enables them to support their loved ones during their recovery.
The Southeastern Firefighters Burn foundation also helps needy patients pay for medications, anti-scarring garments, and transportation for follow-up medical visits, all of which are critically important for successful recovery.
Special volunteer opportunities arise during the holiday season, and the Foundation works with Fire Departments in communities where the Burn Center’s pediatric patients live. Together, they make sure these very special patients enjoy their holiday season. In Augusta, the Foundation also works with the burn physicians and local businesses to provide a holiday shopping opportunity for pediatric burn survivors through the Shop with a Doc program.
