Friends of Barber Creek Meeting Notice

I have reserved the large room (auditorium) at the Oconee County Library from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, for the first official meeting of the a new group called Friends of Barber Creek.

At that meeting, we will:

1. Discuss our strategy for the public hearing to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, in Winder on the request for a permit by the Barrow County Board of Commissioners to begin dumping treated waste water into Barber Creek.

2. Review the recently released storm water plans for Oconee County. Storm water management is crucial to help alleviate the frequent flooding and erosion of Barber Creek.

3. Discuss the Oconee County plans for a permit to begin dumping treated waste water into Barber Creek.

Oconee County residents received in recent weeks the County Utility Department Spring 2006 newsletter, called The Reservoir. On page 3 is an article about the planned expansion of the Rocky Branch waste treatment facility. The article makes no mention of the fact that the expansion will require the dumping of treated waste water into Barber Creek. In fact, the article suggests that the expanded plant will make use of the existing Land Application Site. This is not the case.

This is typical of the way the County has released information about its plans for Barber Creek. It is why our meeting on May 4 is so important.

Please plan to attend and bring along friends and neighbors who are interested in learning how to help protect Barber Creek. If you want additional information on Friends of Barber Creek in advance, go to www.barbercreek.org.

Thanks

Lee

Granite Countertops, Quartz Countertops, Wood Countertops

The Granite Countertop Information web site has been expanded to include information and links for quartz and wood countertops, as well as granite countertops. About Granite Countertops

To answer some of your questions about granite and quartz countertops and help you plan your kitchen or bathroom upgrade, they have assembled some helpful information and planning tips for you. These include how to calculate countertop area, a granite colors and patterns gallery, granite countertop fabrication and finishing tips, granite countertop installation tips,  granite countertop edge styles, and site preparation tips. .

Did you know granite is sold by the square foot? Granite is sold in slabs to insure the grain and color of all of your countertop surfaces match, but your cost is calculated by the square foot area of your countertop. If the particular slab your countertops were made from measured 54 square feet and you countertop area measured 50 square feet, you would only be charged for 50 square feet. The square footage includes cutouts for sinks or drop-in appliances like some cook tops. Don't forget to count the back splash in your estimate.  After you measure the cabinets and calculate the square feet of surface, a fabricator can give you the cost per square foot of the granite you select to figure your cost. The cost of granite varies according to color and pattern chosen.

Several factors affect the price of granite, but the most important are supply and demand. Supply is the affected by the accessibility of the quarry, the uniformity of the stone within the quarry, and the stone's workability. A granite that is exquisitely figured, one that contains rare colors (e.g. blue), or one that is found only in a third world country will be more costly.

Once a customer has selected granite as their countertop material, the next step is to choose a color.   The color and pattern for your kitchen countertops is a very personal choice. Most of the time, but not always, the top will be the focal point of the kitchen. Patterns and colors vary greatly so there will always be a piece of granite that will fit in with your decorating ideas. You have over 70 styles to choose from.  For more information about granite and granite countertops, follow this link  More information here..
